Manuka Honey Destroys MRSA in Laboratory Study

Honeymark International, a manufacturer of health care products, is utilizing a special type of honey that has been proven to destroy strains of bacteria that are otherwise impervious to antibiotics.

The medical industry has been turned upside down with the onslaught of cases involving antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria. Due to the microorganisms' ability to mutate and become resistant to elements that are attempting to destroy them, medical professionals have been searching for an alternative solution to treat Staph infections and other hard-to-kill bacteria. Their prays were answered when a manufacturer of advanced wound care products hired BioScreen Laboratories to do some third-party product testing on their products in order to confirm their effectiveness in destroying this life-threatening bacteria.

Honeymark International is a skin care manufacturer that has found a niche in developing products containing Active Manuka Honey which is a particular type of honey that has been found to have extremely powerful antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. Honeymark hired BioScreen to perform tests to determine the effectiveness of their product in destroying MRSA. The result of the testing indicated that Honeymark's Manuka Honey product does have antimicrobial activity against MRSA.

This is ground breaking news considering that there are very few options to treat wounds infected with MRSA. Manuka Honey kills bacteria in a different manner in which antibiotics do. Manuka Honey draws water out of bacteria, making it impossible for the bacteria to survive. Manuka Honey creates an acidic and sugary environment within the wound bed that bacteria cannot withstand. To date, there has been no bacteria that has been able to develop a resistance to Manuka Honey.

Honeymark's First Aid Antiseptic Lotion can be purchased on their website and soon at retailers across the country. The company also plans on releasing similar products in the form of an Antiseptic Spray and an Sanitizing Hand Gel later this year. "We've been achieving great results with our wound product in healing Staph infections," says Frank Buonanotte, CEO of Honeymark International. "There are currently no over-the-counter products that are as capable of healing seriously infected wounds. The antibacterial properties of Manuka Honey have far superseded those of any other OTC product on the market."
