Apitherapy and the Medical Use of Honey

Honey is being used as a viable alternative to pharmaceuticals and more traditional forms of medicine due to its powerful healing properties.

The term Apitherapy refers to the use of bee products, such as honey, for medical purposes. Honey has been used for medicinal purposes for many years as a natural alternative to pharmaceuticals and has been successful in treating a variety of different symptoms from infected wounds to eczema. One particular type of honey known as "Manuka Honey" has been proven to have more healing properties than other types of honey. As a result, Manuka Honey is now being used as a main ingredient in some health care products.

There are many benefits to using Manuka Honey for medical purposes. It's antibacterial and antimicrobial properties are capable of destroying bacteria and clearing infection. It's anti-inflammatory properties are effective in relieving pain associated with arthritis, wounds, muscle stiffness and joint complications. Manuka Honey has even been found to have strong anti-fungal properties which makes it effective in eliminating ringworm and other fungal conditions such as athlete's foot, jock itch and nail fungus. Manuka Honey's healing properties are so powerful that it is even being used to successfully destroy MRSA and heal Staph infections where antibiotics have failed.

Like all types of honey, Manuka Honey contains hydrogen peroxide, which has been used as an antiseptic. However, with Manuka Honey, the hydrogen peroxide is present in a slow-release manor which prevents any damage to the skin. In addition, Manuka Honey has another antibacterial compound which has become known as the Unique Manuka Factor. It is believed that this molecule comes from the nectar of the flowers that grow on the Manuka bush, which is indigenous to New Zealand. The honeybees take this nectar back to their hives where they produce this special type of honey.

Honeymark International is a manufacturer of advanced health care products containing Active Manuka Honey as a healing agent. Honeymark imports Manuka Honey from New Zealand and blends it into their medicated creams and lotions. "We recently had a customer who had a severe wound on his leg that wouldn't heal," says Frank Buonanotte, CEO of Honeymark International. "He was under the supervision of several doctors at a wound care center who had tried a variety of different wound dressings to no avail. They even tried to keep his leg in a hyperbaric chamber. It wasn't until they used our First Aid Antiseptic Lotion with Manuka Honey until they started to see results. One week later the wound had healed significantly and by the second week, it had been completely manageable."

Stories like this are becoming more common as Manuka Honey gains its well-deserved recognition as a natural healing substance. Honeymark products can be purchased over-the-counter without a prescription. For more information or to purchase Manuka Honey products, call 1-866-427-7329 or visit www.HoneymarkProducts.com.
